MUSIC AT ST. STEPHENS

Music is a vital part of our worship.  The music ministry at St. Stephens focuses on combining our love of the Anglican traditional hymns with sacred music set in more contemporary styles.

Choir

Our choir sings regularly at the Sunday 10:15 a.m. service (except during the summer months). The choir leads the congregation in hymn singing during worship. Professional vocalists serve as soloists, cantors, and as choir section leaders.   The choir anthems include classical, traditional and modern sacred music; all prepared and presented to glorify God.  Often, the choir participates in special services and enhances the music worship experience during the Advent, Christmas and Easter seasons.

Instrumental Music

Besides those who sing, our music ministry welcomes instrumentalists.  In the course of our worship you may hear organ, piano, guitars, percussion, woodwinds, strings and brass.

PARTICIPATING IN MUSIC

Adults and youth are welcome to be part of the music team.   Rehearsals are on Sundays from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. (following worship service).  We have no attendance or music reading requirements.

Whether you sing, play an instrument (or have always wanted to) come make a joyful noise with us by participating in St. Stephen’s music ministry.  Contact Carolyn Jess, Music Director.  You can reach Carolyn by calling the Church office at 509.448.2255 and leaving a message or call her directly at 509.448.2731.

Q & A for the Music Ministry at St. Stephen’s:

What is the mission of the music ministry at St. Stephens?

Our mission is to praise God with our music.

Do I have to audition to be involved in the music ministry?

Absolutely not!    All are welcome!

Do I have to read music or have a trained voice?

No!  It is not necessary to read music in order to participate in the music ministry at St. Stephens.  In the choir, we have professional vocalists in each section.  They lead the way and assist their section in learning the parts.

Do I need to be at every rehearsal or Sunday service?

At St. Stephens, we openly accept people with busy lives.  Come as often as you are able and participate as consistently as you can.   Your commitment helps the music ministry maintain quality.

Can I participate if I play an instrument?

Yes.  All types of instruments are welcome; keyboard, guitars, brass, winds, strings and percussion.

What are some of the activities outside of the church services?

Choir Advance Workshops, Christmas Carol Event, Other special church programs

Can I participate as a part of a support team instead of singing or playing?

Assistance with meals for the choir during Easter services and Choir Advance Workshops.

Can I just participate during Christmas and Easter?

Absolutely.

Can I participate all except Christmas and Easter?

Absolutely.

Can I still participate in the service as an alter guild member, coffee hour host, reader, usher, or greeter and be in the choir?

Choir will always try to accommodate your other duties inside and outside the church.
